The trial of the Tolpuddle Martyrs is arguably the most famous trial to be held at Shire Hall. The arrest, sentence, and transportation of the six agricultural labourers in 1834, created a legacy not only within Dorset, but on a national scale as well.

In this talk, local historian Brian Bates explores how these six ordinary men from Dorset changed the course of history, and helped shape the society we live in today.
